Historical Suite at Umaid Bhawan Palace Jodhpur

The palace complex combines the hotel, the royal family residence and a museum covering the 20th-century history of the Jodhpur royal family.

Construction began on 18 November 1929 under Maharaja Umaid Singh and was completed in 1943.

The building was originally known as Chittar Palace during construction because it stands on Chittar Hill, the highest point in Jodhpur.

Taj lists 71 rooms and suites, comprising 26 rooms and 45 suites.

The official Taj listing identifies an outdoor swimming pool, a heated swimming pool and an indoor pool; independent descriptions identify the indoor pool as subterranean.

The wellness facilities include Jiva Grande Spa, yoga, meditation, massages, Ayurvedic treatments and a fitness centre.

Risala is the formal restaurant associated with Rajasthani cuisine, while Pillars serves from a colonnaded terrace and Trophy Bar combines cocktails, wine and cigars with a hunting-lodge aesthetic.

Named venues include Rathore Durbar Hall, Marwar Hall, the Chamber of Princes, Fountain Courtyard, Central Dome, Front Lawn and Maharaja Pavilion.

Event listings state a floating or cocktail capacity of up to 1,500 guests, with a reported seating capacity of 400.

The grounds support billiards, pool tables, tennis courts, polo, horse riding, a jogging track, a games room, a heritage walk, onsite shopping and a helipad.
